Weekend Review: Creating with African Wax Fabric

Creating with African Wax Fabric / Marion Costamagna
Concord, CA: Stash Books, c2022.
96 p.

This is a short book focused on African wax print fabrics, written by a French pattern designer who also uses a lot of this fabric. She runs Vestiaire Eponyme, and you can find lots more about her and her books and patterns there.

This book is project based - not a lot of chatter other than the 20 patterns shared here. There is an intro by the (white) author, about herself and why sells and uses African Wax fabrics. And this book certainly does highlight this fabric! There are numerous colourful fabrics, a lively fun model, and interesting designs for youthful outfits - skirts, tops, dresses, pants, accessories.

There are lots of options here, with 20 patterns. I liked the range of designs - a lot of them are short, or have cutouts or are cropped - definitely not my style but really cute on the models. I did like a couple of the skirts and a top in particular... one named Mélanie, so how could I not want to make it?

I haven't tried to print the patterns yet so will have to report back on those. But the book is a fun one to look through, some great uses of print and print-mixing here. As noted, there isn't a lot to it aside from the projects, so if you don't like any of them it won't be that useful to you. I'd say if you like this fabric and want some ideas, try to find this at your library as well.
