20 in 2020

I know I said that I want to slow down and try more complex patterns this year, but that didn't stop me from getting all excited about the 20 in 2020 plans going around. The numbers are just too irresistible!

I was looking through Instagram sewing challenges, pondering doing the Make Nine challenge for the first time, or maybe the Use Nine Challenge instead...so I thought I'd combine them into a 20 for 2020 Challenge by adding one more to each!

Now, having said that, this is going to be a relaxed and aspirational challenge, not one that I'm going to rigidly hold myself to. I don't do well with fixed parameters, so this 20 in 2020 is my overarching them for myself, and a reminder of things I'd like to do by the end of the year.

Onward with the details!

Here are the Ten Patterns I'd like to get to this year:

1. Jennifer Lauren Laneway Dress
2. Jennifer Lauren Ivy Pinafore
3. Chalk & Notch Fringe Dress
4. Antero Shell Top (from the Well Traveled Collection)
5. Halla Agnes Dress
6. Halfmoon Atelier's La Brea Tee
7. Jalie Rachel Top/Dress
8. Closet Case Cielo Top/Dress
9. Victory Patterns Hazel Dress
10. Named Sointu Tee

And here are Ten Stash Fabrics I'd like to use up this year:

L: Windham Fabrics cotton, R: knit

L: Cotton voile, R: knit

L: Rayon twill, R: Linen/Cotton blend
L: mystery woven, R: knit

L: stretch poplin, R: knit

These 20 may overlap, or they may not. I have some ideas now put down in writing, but will always follow my mood as to making things. I have at least ten Big 4 and Burda patterns that I'm interested in too! And then there is my goal of drafting a pattern of my own.

So it will be interesting to see how things look at the end of the year! Do you like to make plans or to go with the flow?

  1. Great idea, 20 seems very manageable if the patterns are not too complex, I may adapt it and use it myself. Looking forward to seeing the results.

    1. I thought that 10 of each seemed quite manageable! I don't usually make items that take couture level sewing so it should be reasonable time-wise :)

  2. You have chosen quite a variety of designers and patterns. Are they new to you ? I love your fabrics as always. I have only tried a couple of challenges in the sewingsphere because I don't think I can keep up and I was right , I didn't.
So I just set my own sewing goals dependant of what patterns and fabrics I have and what needs to be sewn. Good luck with your challenge , I will enjoy following along.

    1. I am joining the challenge but never hold myself to them -- just if I feel like completing it, I will ;)

All the patterns are new to me except for the Laneway Dress, but I have a stash fabric earmarked for another so want to get to it this year!

  3. That's a LOT of 'Indie' designers! I'm still unconvinced by most of them, only a couple have impressed me over the last couple of years, most seem rather same-ish and shapeless, or simply rip-offs of vintage styles. I have made fewer Vogue makes this last year though, so maybe I'm slipping?!

    1. The only one I am not sure about is the Agnes Dress, because it seems quite simple and I'm not convinced about the fit potential -- all the others are by companies I've tried before and have liked. Oh, except the Antero, but that is so simple I am hoping it can't go far wrong!

I do like a lot of Indie patterns but yes, there are also a LOT of shapeless ones out there. I think it's the same with the Big 4 though, there are many of their designs that I don't like at all.

  4. I make plans. But I usually only get through one or two things before I get bored with one plan and make a new plan.

I love your fabrics, especially the black and white typefaces!

    1. That's my issue too! I'm hoping by making a list I won't get too distracted from what I would like to make right now.

The typeface one is a knit and a "precious" one that I've been stalling on making up because I don't want to waste it on something that doesn't work. I'm trying to decide on the best pattern for it. I only have about 1.5 m. so have to pick something worthy...
